Sekera and Ellis Sign

Apparently I am some sort of hockey groundhog. I wrote up a lengthy article talking about the pro’s and con’s of signing Drew Stafford, saying that he’s the modern equivalent of Rob Johnson, and four hours later the Sabres inked him. That’s been repeated today as the Sabres seemingly waited for me to write about why they don’t need Andrej Sekera before announcing that he’s signed a multi-year deal with the club.

Bonus points for Matt Ellis. Solid dude that they can call up from Portland to plug gritty minutes.

Details haven’t been released yet, but this adds weight to the defense. As I pointed out earlier today, right now the 3rd pairing D-men are looking like Weber/Sekera/Gragnani (with one of them sitting, of course). Not exactly a weak link in the bunch, and it makes for a scary defense with this team.

Now lock up that backup goalie and Gragnani.
