The Buffalo Sabres have announced two new members to the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame.
Inducted into the class of 2012 are Buffalo Sabres play by play announcer Rick Jeanneret and former player Dale Hawerchuk. The pair will be officially inducted on November 8th, 2011 when the Winnipeg Jets visit First Niagara Center.
Jeanneret joins longtime friends and partners Ted Darling, the original “Voice of the Sabres” and Jim Lorentz. Jeanneret has been calling the play of hockey since 1963. Probably nearing the end of his career in the broadcast booth, Rick getting the nod is a no brainer, having entertained Sabres nation for 40 years with some of the greatest calls in Sports history.
“Oh Brother, Now do you believe?”
“Are You Ready Legion of Doom? Here Come the Buffalo Sabres!”
“May Day, May Day, May Day…Brad May!”
“Dave Hannon! Dave Hannon! Dave Hannon sends this series back to where Jimmy Hoffa is!”
I could go on and on and on about memorable calls for Rick. The only thing I think he has to regret; and it could happen if he can hang in there for some of the new era of Pegula hockey here in Buffalo, is the ability to call the final seconds of a Stanley Cup championship win for the Buffalo Sabres.
Hawerchuk’s career is probably why the Buffalo Sabres have selected November 8th as the induction ceremony, prior to coming to the Buffalo Sabres Dale played nine seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, and won a Calder Trophy as the NHL rookie of the year.
A member of the Hockey Hall of Fame (2001), he led the Sabres in goals, assists, and points in 1994, and was a stalewart on the Sabres offense for five seasons.
Jeanneret and Hawerchuk become the 36th and 37th members of the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame.
