September Previews: Calgary Flames

Today’s look around the NHL brings us to the Calgary Flames.  The Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames usually don’t have much to talk about – because well, there is not a lot of action between these two teams.  This year however, there is a little bit of history.

The Buffalo Sabres were able to trade for Robyn Regehr, bringing Ales Kotalik back into the fold as well.  Who knows what the Sabres have in store for Kotalik, but getting rid of Regehr played out well for both the Buffalo Sabres and today’s featured Calgary Flames.

The Buffalo Sabres only face the Flames once this season, and it is pretty early in the schedule.  Calgary visits First Niagara Center on November 4th, 2011. The last time the two teams faced off, the Flames hosted the Sabres and went out to claim victory against the Blue and Gold to the tune of 5-2.  All time against the Flames (both Calgary and the first Atlanta franchise) the Buffalo Sabres are 47-33-16, with the home team winning the contests more often than not.

Ryan Patrick of Flame for Thought gives us a pretty good breakdown of how he thinks the new additions, recently departed players are going to play into Calgary’s success, and how they are going to fair this season under new GM Jay Feaster.  You can see his breakdown here.

Tune in tomorrow for another edition of Fansided 30 in 30 as the Carolina Hurricanes are now on the clock.
