It couldn’t be a better month. The air cools off, training camps start across the country; preseason games, the smells and sounds of hockey. The joys of September. It also helps that there are 30 days in the month and that gives us the ability to look at one team each day in the Fansided 30 in 30 September Preview.
Today’s opponent, the Colorado Avalanche. The Buffalo Sabres only played the Av’s once last year, falling in overtime to the Denver based hockey club. Wednesday March 14th the Avalanche come down to earth and travel across the country to play in the First Niagara Center.
Finishing 14th and out of the playoffs has to leave a bad taste in the mouth of hockey fans in the Rocky Mountains. They lost several good players, gained a few players – and could end up right where they were last year in a tough conference. Upgrades were made in a couple of spots, but according to Stephen Crociata of Mile High Sticking
Losses over last 6 months [might] prove to much for the Avalanche. It is possible the losses of Chris Stewart, John Michael Liles, Adam Foote, and Tomas Fleischmann wind up being to much leadership for the Avs to lose in a short amount of time. They still have Paul Stastny, Milan Hejduk, and a core of young potential leaders but has this offseason seen too much change?
