Numminen Added as Assistant Coach

It was announced today that the Buffalo Sabres have hired former defenseman Teppo Numminen as a third assistant coach.

Numminen, 43, began his NHL career with the Winnipeg Jets in the 1988-89 season. He also played for the Phoenix Coyotes and Dallas Stars before joining the Sabres for the 2005-06 season.

After retiring in 2009, Numminen was a consultant for the Finnish team at the World Juniors.

He will take a spot in the press box during games, consulting via headset with coaches on the bench. It’s also expected that he will assist in the development of young defensemen.
