Preseason Game Number 1: Carolina Hurricanes

The Buffalo Sabres five games in seven nights preseason tournament starts tonight with the Blue and Gold playing the arch nemesis Carolina Hurricanes.  Game time is scheduled for 7 PM, and is the first contest inside the newly named First Niagara Center.

As in seasons past, the game is blacked out locally, and can only be heard on the radio home of the Buffalo Sabres, WGR550.  The team however, is going to stream the game live on Sabres.com.  I wouldn’t expect to see a lot of continuity from the Buffalo Sabres.  Lindy Ruff is a coach who is willing to shuffle lines at the drop of a line to spark something in a game or change up a line that is not clicking.  The line of Nathan Gerbe, Patrick Kaleta, and Paul Gaustad has remained in tact from last season.

Last season that line gave opponents fits with their aggressive style, slow to shy away from getting physical or playing in those areas of the ice that few people dare entertain even the thought of going.

Hockey has returned to downtown Buffalo.  Doesn’t it feel grand?
