Familiar foe. Thats a good way to describe meetings between the Buffalo Sabres and tonights opponent the Montreal Canadiens. These two teams have faced off 20 times during the preseason.
Tonights contest is the first Sabres away preseason game of the year. It marks the return of Jason Pominville to the ice after his Game 5 injury last year in the playoffs. An injury that he wasn’t supposed to recover from yet. I wouldn’t expect to see much out of Pominville tonight, as he attempts to shake the rust off and get himself into game shape. He might feel fine in practices and scrimmages, but when push comes to shove testing the legs post injury in a real game is different.
The Sabres have already begun trimming their roster down to regular season strenght, sending ten players back to their respective clubs. The most notable name on the list, is Mark Pysyk, the 2010 first round pick. The Sabres still have some trimming to do to get the roster down to the regular season maximum, as well as trading or stashing players in Rochester to make it under the salary cap for the 2011 season.
So far in exhibition play this season the Buffalo Sabres are 1-0, and the Montreal Canadiens are 0-1. Game time tonight is 7:30
