It has been the goal of Darcy Regier all along to move salary off the Buffalo Sabres roster through the trade route. Obviously no dance partners were available to tango, as the team announced that forward Ales Kotalik and defensemen Shaone Morrisonn have been placed on waivers.
If no one claims the players by noon tomorrow, they will be placed with the Buffalo Sabres AHL affiliate the Rochester Americans.
This frees up just over 5 million dollars in salary cap space that the Buffalo Sabres need to get under the cap. It would still benefit the Buffalo Sabres to come down a bit more, to provide for some wiggle room, as they are close to the cap, and any trade deadline deal done now will have to be a dollars for dollars deal. With that news, the Buffalo Sabres are back in town to play the back end of a home and home with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Buffalo Sabres used the third period again last night to beat the Leafs last night at the ACC. I would anticipate a similar type game tonight at the FNC.
I am headed down to the arena tonight, taking my son to his first ever hockey game.
