Six different goal-scorers contributed to a stellar Amerks win on Sunday evening over the Grand Rapids Griffins, as the Amerks won 7-2 in a match that left nearly every Griffins player with a minus-rating.
AHL rookie right winger Zack Kassian notched two goals on three shots and racked up 15 penalty minutes. This included five for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct after Kassian took on former NHL tough guy Garnet Exelby.
Jacob Lagace and Derek Whitmore both scored their first goals as Rochester Americans. Marcus Foligno, Jonathan Parker, and Colin Stuart also added goals in the win.
One breath-taking moment came in the form of a penalty shot, 14:34 into the second period, as Drew MacIntyre stopped Trevor Parks to maintain the 5-2 Rochester lead.
Alex Biega, Brayden McNabb and Colin Stuart led the team with plus-3, and all but five of the Griffins skaters (including the two goalies) had at least a minus-1 rating.
The Amerks are now tied for second in their division with four points. Their two-game winning streak faces its next test Tuesday evening, as the undefeated Syracuse Crunch come to town.
