Sabres Reassign Szczechura, Recall Finley

AUTHOR: | IN: Players, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

After last night’s 2-1 loss to the NY Islanders, the Buffalo Sabres have – once again – returned forward Paul Szczechura to the Rochester Americans. This may not be a permanent move, as the injured Patrick Kaleta didn’t practice with the NHL squad this morning and his status for Friday’s game is currently unknown. In addition, an upper body injury in last night’s performance means defenseman Jordan Leopold will be out for at least this weekend’s games against Detroit and Nashville. To fill in, the Sabres have recalled 6-foot-8 Joe Finley from the Amerks. Finley was drafted by the Washington [...]

Islanders @ Sabres pre-game 11-29-11

AUTHOR: | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The New York Islanders are in town tonight to take on the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center. The Sabres are coming off of a very impressive 5-1 victory on Saturday over the Washington Capitals, a game in which lead to the firing of Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau. Buffalo is looking to add to the winning streak at home with a win tonight against the struggling Islanders.

Joe Finley & Trade Rumors

AUTHOR: | IN: NHL, Players, Sabres | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Buffalo Sabres have added depth to their system, and are involved in a big trade rumor this morning. This season is in full swing and the Sabres have seemingly pulled out of a nasty slump, but mounting injuries and under-performing forwards have brought about at least one move from the club.

PreGame Skate: New York Islanders

AUTHOR: | IN: NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The tales of these two teams couldn’t be any further apart on the spectrum of life.  Tonight the Buffalo Sabres play host to the abysmal New York Islanders.  The Buffalo Sabres are a team on the rise, trying to get better, to compete for the Stanley Cup, new ownership, new players and a rabid fan base make Buffalo a hockey destination.  There is only one word needed to describe the New York Islanders, stale.  Still playing in an arena built in the 1970s, a contract on the isle is more of a sentence than a destination.  Tied for the fewest [...]

Sabres Demote 3 Players

AUTHOR: | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

The banged-up Buffalo Sabres are healthy enough to afford returning three players to the minors. Forwards Paul Szczechura and Corey Tropp, and defenseman T.J. Brennan were re-assigned to AHL Rochester on Monday. The moves come as the Sabres had several injured regulars back on the ice for practice. It’s a group that included forwards Drew Stafford and Patrick Kaleta and defenseman Robyn Regehr, who each missed at least one game last week. Forward Tyler Ennis is also considered close to returning after missing 16 games with an ankle injury. The Sabres are 3-3-1 in their past seven and were minus [...]

A Case for Kassian

AUTHOR: | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I’ve been a big cheerleader for Kassian since he was drafted. I definitely agree with the Sabres’ brass to slowly develop Kassian, despite the obvious need for his mix of size, strength and offensive ability; however, Kassian has gotten the chance to show his abilities the past 2 games and has proven he can play in the NHL. Kassian currently has 14 points in 18 games with the Rochester Americans, putting him at 3rd best on the team. This is certainly a respectable output from the AHL rookie and with his 2 games with the Buffalo Sabres he has a goal and assist. I [...]

PreGame Skate: Washington Capitals

AUTHOR: | IN: NHL, Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

In the grand scheme of things, the Columbus Blue Jackets last night taught the Buffalo Sabres a lesson in military history and physics last night.  Sabres stand no match to cannons.  A team that started out the year with an abysmal record because of chemistry issues and injuries took full advantage of a team that is taking a step back in the standings because of injuries and chemistry issues.  In order to shake off the loss from last night and get back on the winning track, the Buffalo Sabres will be forced to do it at home against the Washington [...]

BREAKING: 2 More Sabres Injured, 2 More Amerks Called Up

AUTHOR: | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Robyn Regehr suffered an undisclosed injury in last nights game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This has prompted the blue and gold to call up Brayden McNabb from the Rochester Americans. The 6’5, 205 McNabb was the 66th overall pick in the 2009 draft, and will make his NHL debut tonight at the First Niagara Center against the Washington Capitals. The 20 year old McNabb now joins recent Amerks callups Zack Kassian, TJ Brennan, Corey Tropp, and Drew MacIntyre. The group has a total of only 16 games of NHL experience under their collective belts. Also, an [...]

Sabres vs Blue Jackets

AUTHOR: | IN: Sabres | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tonight’s game in Columbus will be huge for the Sabres. They have lost two straight and need a pick me up from tomorrow nights game against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Columbus has struggled so far this season and it is a good opportunity for the Sabres to come away with two points in a tough Eastern Conference. Brad Boyes is hurt so the Sabres have decided to recall Zach Kassian from Rochester. Kassian is hard hitting forward, the Sabres could have used him on Wednesday against the Boston Bruins. He is not afraid to throw his body around [...]
