The Buffalo Sabres start their climb back up the Eastern Conference standings tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers. This will be the first meeting between the teams since last Easter time whne the Flyers eliminated the Sabres in round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The banged up Flyers come in hoping that they can rekindle some of the magic from last season, which saw them beat Buffalo in six out of 11 games including the playoffs. While the Buffalo Sabres are tinkering with their top line- Leino could be replacing Adam on the Sabres top forward line. They skated together in practice; the Flyers line of Jagr, Hartnell, and Giroux are on fire and will be needed to cool off. In five games so far that line has attributed 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points.
Included in that stretch was the slugfest with the Winnipeg Jets where the Flyers saw themselves on the business end of a 9-8 loss.
Not many other changes for the Sabres – as they continue to muddle through a stretch where they have lost three of their last four. Hecht is still out long term, and Ennis probably will remain out of the lineup for the near future. The Flyers will be without Danny Briere, which is good news for the Buffalo Sabres. Since he left the Sabres he has turned into the proverbial Sabre killer. Hopefully the offense clicks tonight against a goalie that, other than his effort against Carolina – has allowed four goals or better in his last four starts. The Flyers were attributing that to his distraction by the media, and they have amended their policy multiple times, now Bryzgalov is allowed to talk to the media once again – hopefully the media in Buffalo can provide enough of a distraction.
