It doesn’t surprise me that Patrick Kaleta has drawn the ire of the National Hockey Leagues new Vice President of Player Safety and Hockey Operations, Brendan Shanahan. Buffalo’s own and Angola’s pride has received a four games suspension for head butting J. Voracek.
Kaleta knowingly headbutting. The headbutt was not a similar style headbutt that we saw in the World Cup Soccer tournament, but it was a dangerous play none the less.
Kaleta is lucky to be only getting four games for this action, as Shanahan pointed out Kaleta’s intentful play not only in this game but in two other games within the past year or so.
Patrick Kaleta is a fan favorite for being able to get under the skin of opposing players, and for dropping the gloves on some occasions to stick up for the Blue and Gold. Actions such as the video above show why he gets no respect around the league for his actions.
While his intensity for the game is admirable, and the fact that he tries to bring some more skill into his game, if actions such as this continue, it could cost the team when it matters the most.
