Sabres/Devils Wrap Up

For one, Lindy Ruff knew what he was doing when he sat Tyler Myers in Montreal. He needed to sit, but last night Myers was the best player on the ice all night. Myers scored his first two goals of the year, he looked like the Tyler Myers of the 2009-2010 season when he won the Colder Trophy. It was about time Myers showed up to play and it was good that it was in front of yet another sell out crowd at the First Niagara Center.

Myers wasn’t the only defenseman that looked good last night. Jordan Leopold scored the Sabres third and final goal of the night. It was a night the Sabres defense needed. Leopold in my option has been the best Sabres defenseman so far this year. I think that Robyn Reghr and Christian Ehrhoff will find their way by the New Year. Marc Andre Gragnani has struggled and so has Andrej Sekera but it’s still early. The Sabres are 11-6-0 and second in the Eastern Conference. The high expectations coming into the season are the reason people are worried about the team. Ryan Miller is hurt but Jhonas Enroth has proven that he is a capable back up. There is nothing to worry about right now, the Sabres are fine.

In other news T.J Brennan has been called up from Rochester and is on his way to Carolina with the team for tomorrow nights game. Mike Weber is a little banged up. Jochen Hecht may be ready to play this weekend but nothing has been decided. Tyler Ennis continues to practice but no word yet on when he could be back in the line up or if he’s been cleared for full contact.

The Sabres play next in Raleigh against the Hurricanes tomorrow night. We’ll see if Myers can continue his play from last night, if Enroth can shake off his first loss in 2011, can Brennan make an impact in his first NHL game and maybe the most important thing if the Sabres can grab 2 points against their Eastern Conference foes?
