Tonight’s game in Columbus will be huge for the Sabres. They have lost two straight and need a pick me up from tomorrow nights game against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Columbus has struggled so far this season and it is a good opportunity for the Sabres to come away with two points in a tough Eastern Conference.
Brad Boyes is hurt so the Sabres have decided to recall Zach Kassian from Rochester. Kassian is hard hitting forward, the Sabres could have used him on Wednesday against the Boston Bruins. He is not afraid to throw his body around to help the team, Kassian likes to park himself in front of the net. He reminds me of Thomas Vanek and Paul Gaustad in the fact that he is tough, big, and strong, but he also has a good pair of hands to score some goals. I think that he will be a good addition to the Sabres while Boyes is out.
The Sabres did play a pretty sound game against a tough Bruins team, they once again let a two goal lead slip away at home and they need to stop that if they want to be considered one of the elite teams in the National Hockey League. The Sabres are 7-2 on the road with is tied for the best road record in the league with the San Jose Sharks. The Blue Jackets are one of the worst teams in the league with a 5-13-3 record. Their power play and penalty kill rank close to the bottom, while the Sabres are 7th on the PP and 3rd on the penalty kill.
The game should be a good one and I’m hoping the Sabres can get back to their winning ways. A win tonight and tomorrow against the Capitals would go along way for the teams confidence.
