He's Back! Sabres/Leafs Pre-Game

Tim Connolly is back! As everyone knows, this will be Connolly’s first time back in Buffalo since he left for Toronto on July 1st. He started off the season on IR, but he is back now and has 6 goals and 9 assists. It will be interesting to see how the fans inside another sell out crowd at The First Niagara Center. Will he be booed or cheered?

The return of Connolly might be overshadowed by teammate Joffery Lupul. Last night on Twitter Lupul tweeted a picture from his hotel room of a parking lot and a few buildings, asking if he could get a room with no window. That fired a lot of Buffalo fans up, Lupul later tweeted that he was just kidding, but some Sabre fans didn’t seem to care. Hopefully with the return of Connolly and Lupul “joking” about the city, it gets the fans fired up tonight. The F’N Center has been quiet the past month or so, Hockey Heaven needs to wake up a little.
You really can’t blame the fans for being quiet since the team hasn’t given us anything to cheer about. The team has blown 2 and 3 goal leads, they have yet to play a full 60 minutes of hockey at home. The fans were excited about this season and the newly renavated arena, now it seems like they have lost that buzz. Believe it or now the Sabres are 5 points better than they were last season through 30 games, they are still 7th in the East right now. Tonight will end a 5 game home stand and the fans are excited, the team has played great on the road so far this season. Even though the Sabres lost to Ottawa on Tuesday was in OT and they did get a point, yes they should have won that game after having another 2 goal lead but they didn’t. If the Sabres win tonight they will be 2-1-2 on this home stand, six out of a possible ten points isn’t that bad.
The Sabres have recalled Colin Stuart from Rochester, the injury bug has plagued the team all year. As soon as they get one back someone else goes down. If this team ever gets fully healthy, they could surprise a few people. I don’t think they are all that bas, they are doing the best with what they have and the rookies are playing great. McNabb and Kassian have played like I thought they would…tough and physical, they aren’t afraid to hit.
I expect that the Sabres and Leafs will put on a great show tonight, Miller will be in net and he needs to get back on track. I think everyone is hoping for a good, physical game from the Sabres, with Buffalo coming away with two huge points before they head to Pittsburgh for the second of their back to back games.
