The Buffalo Sabres were able to hold on to a victory last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tonight the Sabres embark on a seven game road trip to end the month of January. The Sabres won’t be back to First Niagara Center until the turn of the month.
Tonight the Sabres are being hosted by the lowly New York Islanders. The Sabres were able to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs because of a rounded out attack against a superior team. Getting healthy is the first part of the equation; getting secondary scoring and good goaltending is the next part The Sabres will need some of that secondary scoring tonight against the Islanders.
The Islanders have settled into their position at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but that does not necessarily mean the Buffalo Sabres should take them lightly. The Isanders have guys on their roster who can put the puck in the net on a regular basis, John Tavares has 15 goals on the year; and Matt Moulson has 20 goals (Vanek – the Sabres leading goal scorer has yet to hit that mark, stuck at 19).
While they were able to get a rare home win, the Sabres have struggled on the road lately a well. With 14 points on the line in this upcoming trip, the Sabres can ill afford to play .500 or worse hockey on the trip.
