PreGame Skate: Chicago Blackhawks

Tonight the Buffalo Sabres hope they can stop the bleeding and put an end to a franchise long losing streak on the road which has plenty of people pointing at the Buffalo Sabres and wondering what is wrong with the billion dollar franchise owner who wants a Stanley Cup – and more importantly, whats wrong with his team.

If you were to write a book about the Sabres current losing streak, you could probably title it Down The Rabbits Hole – Spiraling Out of Control.  The whole attitude of the team seams to be stuck on cruise – and cruise is stuck in a downward position.

Two games into their seven game road trip, and they are already looking up at an 0-2 marker, prior to the road trip I said they need to be abve .500 on the trip if they were going to entertain thoughts of saving their season.

Tonights opponent is not going to make it any easier on the Buffalo Sabres, as they face another tough Western Conference opponent in the Chicago Blackhawks.

With their star powered lineup, the Blackhawks hopes to return the Stanley Cup finals are bolstered by their position in the standings, sitting comfortably in fifth place in the West.  While not the machine that Detroit as become lately, Chicago is only 4-4-2 in their last 10 games – but are 3-0-1 in their last four, the Sabres come in on the lowest streak in the history of the franchise, and it appears that no one wants to take responsbility.

Ownership islaying the season on injuries, that attitude has trickled down to the safe management and coaching staff – and the players are shrugging it off as we need to play better.  But the leadership style of Jason Pominville has permeated the entire team.  No one is getting upset, no one is calling each other out, and no one has any onus for their actions on and off the ice.

The Buffalo Sabres are a powder keg of adversity set to go off at any moment, and continuing their losing ways is cutting the fuse smaller and smaller.  Lindy Ruff said in Tuesday’s practice that he needs to be the one that leads them through this adversity.

If there is a small piece of respite for Buffalo Sabres fans, there is a bit of a reprieve, as the game tonight is not effected by the Time Warner Cable and MSG blackout.  The Buffalo Sabres are going to be featured on the channel formerly known as Versus.

Where is the success of the Blackhawks coming in?  Without Patrick Sharp [broken wrist] in the lineup and Patrick Kane putting up his lowest numbers of his career, guys from the secondary scoring range are punching the puck to the back of the net in there absence – something the Buffalo Sabres are missing.
