Fansided Five Randomness

This week’s edition of the Fansided Five is going to take a little bit of randomness to make it happen as I pick just a random set of teams to take a sneak peak at instead of an entire division.  Couple of West, couple of East.

It’s that time of the year where points are at a premium for all teams as those in position try to maintain, and those scratching for post season play look to propel themselves upwards.

Are the Washington Capitals going to miss the post season?  Not that they have gotten very far in Lord Stanley’s tournament when they have made it, they have been for several years perennial favorites heading into the post season.  This year the team from the nations capital sits outside the top eight.  More importantly though is how you look heading to the game.  Take an Outsiders look at how Zach Leonsis selects which jersey to wear at each game.

Fansided covers every NHL team.  Most of my Fansided Five articles are written while I am at work, and for some strange reason, my corporate firewall will not let me on Bolts By the Bay – its the only one that gets caught by those at corporate that want me to only do work.  So here is a general shoutout to the Florida team.

Should Phoenix trade Shane Doan so he can get a crack at the Stanley Cup?  Would he return to the franchise via free agency if that happened?  Would the Coyotes still be in the desert when he hits free agency?  Mike Brophy of Rogers Sportsnet brings that up and it hits a nerve with many Phoenix fans.

The Hockey world has seen tragedy before, and Gary Harding over at Eyes on Isles has an exclusive look at former Islanders draft pick Duncan MacPherson.  A promising young player, he disappeared in 1989 in a supposed skiing incident in Europe.

Tonights opponents, the Dallas Stars are fighting for the playoffs themselves, and the team is preparing to go into buy or sell mode at the deadline, which is fastly approaching.  Take a look at an entry on Blackout Dallas in their buy or sell series on Adam Burish

Thats it for this week.  Join us every Friday for a look around the league, Fansided style.
