The IIHF World Championship tournament runs May 4-20 in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Scotland this year, and Buffalo Sabres forward Nathan Gerbe was scheduled to participate as a member of Team USA.
The red, white, and blue will have to go into the tournament without the Buffalo Sabres left wing as he is staying home with a lower back injury he is being treated for.
Gerbe missed 20 games for the Sabres this year due to injury, and will miss the international tournament this year because of the same, albeit different injuries.
NBC Sports is scheduled to televise all games involving Team USA. This story was first reported by Kevin Snow of the Buffalo Sabres on their website.
Full time father, husband and Buffalo Sabres fan. Started writing with Fansided back when the network only covered the NFL. Launched Sabrenoise.com as the first non-NFL site. Haven't looked back since. If you have any questions or comments on the site please email me at [email protected] I'm a wear white at home, blank sweater wearing fan, non laces type guy. I can't see spending money on a sweater with a guys name on it when he might not be around long enough to wear it out. If I am going to get a name on a sweater, its gonna be an old white home sweater, with either an 11 or a 7 on it.
