As I watch the free agent market dwindle for respectable players, I am forced to look to the Buffalo Sabres affiliates to see if any players are worth taking a shot on. A couple of the names spring to mind: Marcus Foligno and Corey Tropp. I know they are both wingers and not centers .. but in pulling spot duty they performed pretty good.
First is Marcus Foligno .. what can you say negatively on this guy? Not much! He is the product of good genetics and his ability this past season showed it. He has a big body (6’3″ and 222 lbs) and he isn’t afraid to use it. He played in 14 games, had 13 points .. 6 of them goals .. what is even more impressive is his 26.1% shot percentage. For a call-up to perform that well speaks very highly of the organization’s communication with the affiliates so he already was on the same page.
Secondly, we have Corey Tropp. While Tropp does not have the size (6’0″ and 190 lbs)of Foligno, he does bring certain talents to the team. He played in 34 games, recording 8 points, 3 of them goals. Not great numbers, but not bad when you see how little he was on the ice. He played spot duty to give the more mainstay players a breather, the came back to the bench. I believe that if you put him on a line with Ville Leino and Cody McCormick and it would be a very potent line .. an energy line to re-invigorate everyone else with work ethic, determination, and grit.
I know that I will probably be hearing from people disagreeing with me .. and that’s their right .. but these are my thoughts and I will stick with them.
