Last year when the Sabres acquired the rights for Christian Ehrhoff I couldn’t have been happier. I followed Ehrhoff earlier in his career and thought he would have always looked good in blue and gold. When we did end up signing him and seeing what the terms were for it was a win win in my book (10year/ 40million).
When last season started everyone that didn’t know who he was soon saw he was able to pile up minutes and play in all situations. Also to add he has great offensive awareness ability and a rocket of a shot that has given goalies trouble. Although last season was not a really good one in the scoring department (5 goals, 27 assists, 32 points) Christian played a big role in certain situations that needed the Sabres to do everything they could in order to get the two points.
At the trade deadline last season the Sabres pulled off a trade with Vancouver that had Zack Kassian and Marc-Andre Gragnani going to the Canucks for Cody Hodgson and Alexander Sulzer. I think the trade was good for both teams and I think Ehrhoff liked it as well being reunited with a teammate and also his soon to be new defensive partner. Shortly after the trade the two were paired on a line and I thought played very well together. That for the time being it cemented a roster spot for Sulzer for the remainder of the season. Another thing that caught my attention is that Christian has a bit of an intense side at times. I never thought I’d see him fight but he was in a few last season. I think it’s good to see that from a player like that in your lineup. He’s not looking for a fight but he is reacting to an incident on the ice and helping out his mates.
I think when this season comes around Ehrhoff will be great for the Sabres. His offensive production will come up and if he plays like he did with Sulzer last year he will have his partner for the year barring a trade. My prediction for his point production this year is (14 goals, 45 assists, 59 points).
