Buffalo Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff may become the first member of the team to sign overseas during the NHL lockout, as reports have him discussing the option of playing for the Krefeld Penguins of the DEL.
Prior to the beginning of the lockout, Ehrhoff had spoken to reporters and discussed the likelihood of making a return to his hometown Germany and playing for a team there – and now, it seems to be a real thought.
He is expected to arrive home in Germany today, and may decide shortly. Twitter reports as of this morning from several Buffalo sports news outlets say that Ehrhoff is considering it, although he wishes the NHL season would start on time.
The 30-year-old had five goals and 27 assists in 66 games with the Sabres last season.
