It doesn’t matter if I’m at the arena watching the game or at home I think I have always enjoyed following a player as well as the team. Whether you’re into fantasy hockey, following a player out of juniors or follow a position I think many people have fallen into this category. Hence all of the jerseys you see all over the world.
Since my time watching hockey the Sabres of course I have always followed two. The first player that I followed was that of Dale Hawerchuck. When he came to the club he I believed was going to be nothing but good for this organization. His play making abilities and vision of the ice made him an exceptional player. From 90 to 95 following him on a consistent basics rack up the points and contribute every night was great. When he was inducted into Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame back in November of 2011 I think that cemented him as a great player that played for this team. The only thing that I disagreed with was when he signed with the Flyers at the end of his career.
The most recent player I have followed has been Christian Ehrhoff. When he played out west I always tried to catch his games. The way Ehrhoff plays I think makes the game more exciting and also has the skill other defensemen dream of. He is a great skater, a bullet of a shot and plays in all circumstances. When the news broke that the Sabres got his rights I never really thought they would have signed him. All reports were that he was going to hit the open market. Soon after that he was locked up long term with a 10 year contract. Since then I’ve watched games and I think it’s pretty cool to watch him evolve. I think he can be a top defensemen in the league. With all of his talent I believe he will only get better.
With that being said I want to know what makes other players that much more interesting to follow. Is it them being a big name in the league? Is it friends and family liking the player? Or is it a player that is not liked by most that makes you follow them?
