Mikhail Grigorenko the Sabres Next # 1 Center

When you take a look at the Sabres what’s the one thing that’s been said that this team needs? A number one center has been needed for some time now. During the past few years the Sabres have plugged in many names like: Derek Roy, Luke Adam, Ville Leino, Paul Szczechura, Jochen Hecht and Cody Hodgson. With all of these names you would think one player would have emerged and contributed on a consistent basis but no such luck. I mean Derek Roy was productive but in my eyes he was never a number center and was just put in that position to fill it.

What I’m looking at now is when this season finally gets going Mikhail Grigorenko jumps in the number one center slot. When we drafted him the first thing that came to mind was this could be our savior. His NHL ready size and skill I think is just what this team needs. We for the most part have had small centers and to me I think we need a bigger pivot man to compete. Looking at some highlights of his and his stats over the past few years you couldn’t help but to have a good feeling about what could be when he plays in the league.

I know this team has had news about them acquiring a big name center but looking at Grigorenko those rumors could be put to rest. One of the things I hope is the coaching staff gives the guy a shot. What do we have to lose? I know Cody Hodgson or Tyler Ennis could be the guy to get the call but I think we would be in the same situation. Only time will tell but I just want the league meetings to progress and the season to start.
