Rochester Americans End Opening Weekend With Loss

The Rochester Americans were penalized 12 times when they opened their season up against the Syracuse Crunch.   Despite seeing the inside of the penalty box that often – they were able to squeak out a shootout victory.

For the Toronto Marlies – the Rochester penalty woes were a blessing.  With ten trips to the penalty box for the Rochester Americans Saturday night, the Marlies scored three power play goals, two in the first, and one in the third to defeat the Rochester Americans 3-1, ending opening weekend for the Amerks with a 1-1 record.

Marcus Foligno was the only Amerk to score – which is two goals in two games for him.  Cody Hodgson assisted on the powerplay goal, extending his AHL point streak.

The next contest for the AHL Rochester Americans is Wednesday October 16th against the Binghamton Senators.  This is a home game for the Amerks – so if your in need of a hockey fix, make the drive to Rochester and get your tickets for the Blue Cross Arena.

By the time the game against the Senators roll around – the NHLPA should have issued a proposal to the NHL – and we should be closer to the resolution of Lockout 2012.  The longer this goes, the more likely it will be the entire season lost before we know it.

If you haven’t seen it yet, below is the shootout game winner by Mark Mancari from opening night of the Rochester regular season.
