NHL Fansided Friday Five

Another Friday in the books and what a whirlwind week it has been.  From meaningful negotiations on Tuesday with an offer, PR or not from the NHL – to a seemingly breakdown in talks on Thursday with no progress made towards resolving Lockout 2012 and keeping a full NHL season in place.  Here’s a look at the week of hockey according to Fansided writers.

With the freeze on NHL hockey – many prospects and eligible players returned to AHL franchises to keep their legs fresh in the hopes of an NHL season without the need to go to Europe.  Keep tabs on the Griffins with Octopus Thrower as they continue to look at the future of the Detroit Red Wings and the push to get back into Detroit Dynasty Mode.

With the Winter Classic being a hotter ticket in the NHL than the annual NHL All Star Game, and with the danger of the Winter Classic being cancelled – is St. Louis a prime destination for a Winter Classic?  Television opportunities are definitely the interest of the league when it comes to who gets the stick tap on the Winter Classic – and St. Louis might be a little far South for the leagues liking – but it could be a prime spot to get teams involved that might not necessarily get the chance to play in the outdoor game.

Hockey is back in Chicago – at least if your able to follow the Rockford Ice Hogs.  Its just not another excuse to talk about AHL hockey, but a passionate plea by one fan for the NHL to end the lockout and bring hockey back to the hallowed arenas around the league.

Despite the facts of the week bring the sides together and the hope of a season by November 2, 2012 – players are still are still finding it prudent to cross the pond and begin playing hockey in non NHL markets.  The most recent casualty of the lockout comes from Washington - as Nicklas Backstrom follows Alex Ovechkin to Russia with love.

Its not often that I agree with anyone who loves the Boston Bruins, but – are we really at a point where we are siding with Gary Bettman – one of the most hated names in hockey? Not so much siding with but giving a stick tap to the bad guy.

Hockey Fans – if your passionate about your team – we are looking for writers for any number of our sites.  If your interested in joining our team of writers, click here.
