When you think about this current lockout there is nothing good to come from it. One thing I thought about today is the possibility of Buffalo Sabres fans not hearing that iconic voice that everyone knows. By many I have heard that he is the best and wouldn’t want anyone different.
Rick Jeanneret known for his electrifying calls came to this organization in the 1971-1972 seasons. Since then we have had the luxury to hear some of those famous calls like: “Top shelve where momma hides the cookies” and May Day! May Day! May Day! During his career with the team his colleagues have come and gone but RJ has stayed and his greatness will always be there within the organization. Some other announcers that have had the pleasure to work with RJ are that of Jim Lorentz and Harry Neale. Starting this year Rob Ray was going to join Jeanneret in the booth for some games and return to his regular role along the ice.
Some awards he has collected during his time have shown and brought out his great talents he has offered to the great fans of Buffalo and everyone else that listens and watches the games. One of his awards he received was the induction into the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame on August 31 2011. Another great award that he was granted was being also inducted in the Greater Buffalo Hall of Fame. In both cases it shows that his great passion, talent and love for the Sabres and hockey were acknowledged.
So when I look into this lockout and see all of the bad it causes the players, owners and fans other people are also affected that we might not think about. One thing I wish for RJ is that one day he can call another Stanley Cup game for the Buffalo Sabres of course and cap off a great career.
