2013 WJC Player Profiles: Zemgus Girgensons

On Saturday we featured Dan Catenacci in our player profile series for this years tournament in Ufa, Russia, and today it was announced that he had made the cut for the selection camp in Calgary.

Today we will feature Buffalo Sabres first round draft pick Zemgus Girgensons.

Girgensons made the fast promotion to the AHL after the entry draft – his style of play attributing to that.  He is a great two way player – and has the size and skill to be a formidable pivot man.

Through 16 games in the AHL however; he has been a relative non-issue for the Rochester Americans, only scoring one goal and three assists.  He has picked up ten penalty minutes.

Zemgus would likely be the top pivot man – if not the team leader in Ufa, Russia if he were to make the Latvian squad – and would face some tough opponents.

Lativa plays in Group A and will have to face off against foes Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, and Switzerland.

In order for Girgensons to play in the tournament, he will have to get permission from the Rochester Americans to play in the tournament.
