The NHL-NHLPA talks went better than expected yesterday, and talks continued late into the night. The sides have agreed to meet again today before the NHL Board of Governors meeting.
If talks are progressing well – maybe it is important that Jeremy Jacobs is in the room, because if the temperature of the NHLPA side of the house is leaning towards accepting an NHL deal that will get them playing hockey again, Mr. Jacobs can take that news to the BOG.
We are getting very close to another NHL decision on the schedule. So far the league has cancelled all NHL games through Dec. 14th. Gary Bettman has a press conference scheduled for today at 1PM. I have no doubt in my mind that the league will announce more cancellatioins today in the absence of a deal – whether or not the negotiations are going well.
I think that part has to continue to be done, just like the NHLPA has to keep talking about decertification. I could see the NHL announcing that the regular season cannot happen before January 1st.
The press conference at 1PM could also lead to the end of the lockout, as previously reported there could have been a 48 hour relief window put on negotiations. While flimsy at best – it is the best news since the start of the 81 day lockout.
