His goal doesn’t count for his total in the race to break the 40 year old Rochester Americans record, but T.J. Brennan scored in the sixth round of a shootout to lift the Rochester Americans over the league leading Abbotsford Heat.
After trading goals in regulation play, the goaltenders maintained a perfect pace through five shooters. Frederick Roy scored his second professional goal to open things up, and Luke Adam tallied a goal during regulation to account for the two goals scored by the Rochester Americans.
Dustin Sylvester had a two point night for the Heat with a goal and an assist, and former Buffalo Sabres prospect Paul Bryon added the tally to make it a 2-2 game at about the eight minute mark of the third period.
After the Byron goal, it was all goaltending the rest of the way. Both David Leggio and Heat goaltender Barry Brust each faced 31 shots, allowing only two goals in regulation. Both goalies remained perfect through the five regulation shootout attempts – with Brennan’s goal coming in the sixth round.
The win tonight brings the Rochester Americans to an 11-9-2-0 on the season, and moves them to within striking distance of the Lake Erie Monsters. The Amerks travel to Quicken Loans Arena to face the Monsters next – so another big two points is on the line.
