NHL Cancels Season Through January 14th

If you were waiting on the NHL to plan your New Year’s resolutions or plotting on what to do the first two weeks of January, you can now start filling in dates.

Today the NHL announces they have cancelled the 2012-2013 regular season through January 14th.

The next announcement will cancel the rest of the regular season, as you will no longer be able to play a meaningful portion of the season.

Despite Daly coming out and saying he thinks there will be a season, well, he might think that Donald Fehr is getting him a Christmas present as well.

The ticking time bomb that is the NHL is running out – with both sides entrenched, no man’s land has now been clearly defined.  If there is no deal by the midpoint of January, Donald Fehr will have successfully caused another wiped out season in a second sport, and the second in the NHL’s history.

When we were once told that it looked promising for a start near Christmas, now looks like the New Year will ring in without cause for celebration.  Were running out of midnights to come up with an eleventh hour deal that will save a season.

Why has it taken this long?  Greed, unneccesary standpoints, delays in counterproposals – and mostly Donald Fehr.
