Deadline Day: NHL Gets Counter Proposal

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The NHL should receive a counterproposal from the NHLPA today – afer the league gave the players another chance at starting the 2012-2013 season.

How much of a counter proposal they give will tell us today if there is going to be an NHL season or not.  If the players make slight modifications to the owners plan and shoot them back something very similar, then ground will have been made and hockey will be played.

If Donald Fehr gives Bill Daly and Gary Bettman a radical change, hoping for a better offer from the league, it just might kill the second NHL season in eight years.

The sides are not that far apart – both sides want to play hockey, Donald Fehr continues to push for the best possible deal – instead of a deal that will be satisfactory to get the season started.

Starting the New Year off right with a deal that amends the two sides will go a long way in repairing the vast amount of damage done to fans during Lockout 2012 – a lockout that seems to be worse for the fans than the 2004 model.

For fans in Buffalo – now that the Buffalo Bills are down and out for the count, watching the NFL playoffs; fans only have to turn their attention to one thing, and thats hockey.  Without it, its going to be a long cold winter in Buffalo.
