The Buffalo Sabres have invited scoring defenseman and wildly popular defenseman T.J. Brennan to camp this weekend, the only problem is, he has a very congested blue line to contend with.
This puts the Buffalo Sabres in a tough spot – as the young prospect has to clear waivers before he can return to the AHL – if the team should deem that necessary.
The Sabres have a couple of guys on the blue line that you could find a trade partner with, Andrej Sekera, Mike Weber are the top two names who will be challenged by the fact that Brennan is looking to make the NHL. Leopold could be moved to a team that needs that veteran presence looking to make a push to the playoffs – since we are at the point in the year when teams look for that…the start of the season this year almost feels like trade deadline day already.
I can’t see the Sabres risking pushing Brennan back to the AHL and losing him for nothing on the waiver wire.
The Buffalo Sabres have a huge need at center, and while you are not going to pick yourself a number one center for our defensive leftovers – you could get a third line guy that plays a chunk of ice time.
Too many good defenseman is not a good thing to have when you are up against the start of a shortened season, with a limited window to get yoru opening night roster whittled down.
