While fans in Western New York suffered through the National Hockey Leagues 113 day lockout – they turned to Rochester for hockey relief. Time Warner Cable in an effort to woo Buffalo Sabres fans – offered a selection of Rochester Americans games on their sports channel.
Fans are now going to have to make a choice – or ensure the batteries in their remotes are fresh. With nine games on the remaining schedule set to be televised for the red, white, and blue Amerks, only two of them conflict with live Buffalo Sabres action.
January 25th, 2013. While the Buffalo Sabres are hosting the Carolina Hurricanes at the First Niagara Center, Rochester will be facing off against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
February 2nd, 2013. Buffalo on the road this time in Montreal to face the Montreal Canadiens -the same day their top AHL affiliate will be playing the Syracuse Crunch. Thankfully though this will be a hockey filled day, as the Sabres and Canadiens will meet at 2PM, and the Amerks face off at 7PM.
The calendar will have to roll until almost the end of the season, when the Buffalo Sabres face the Ottawa Senators on April 5th, 2012. The Lake Erie Monsters are the Amerks opponent that night.
Buffalo Sabres games will be played on MSG this year as always – seven games on NBC – including the home opener. Two games will be covered by the NHL Network as well as two games for Canadien fans on RDS, while CBC will air three Buffalo Sabres games.
