Time marches on for the Rochester Americans and the AHL now that the NHL has resumed operations. Shortly after being waived by the Buffalo Sabres due to an over crowded roster, Rochester Americans captain Kevin Porter received a stick tap from the American Hockey League, and will represent the Rochester based Buffalo Sabres affiliate in the AHL All Star Game.
Porter has appeared in all Rochester contests so far this year, and has 30 points with his 11 goals and 19 assists.
This will be Porter’s first crack at appearing in an AHL All-Star game.
The honors for the Amerks don’t stop there, as Brayden McNabb receives his second election to the mid season classic. Porter was selected to the 2012 All Star Game – but did not play due to a call up to the Buffalo Sabres.
The 2013 NHL All Star Classic takes place January 27-28, 2013 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island and is being hosted by the Providence Bruins.
AHL All Star weekend kicks off on Friday January 25th with the Bruins home game, followed by a youth hockey fest on Saturday the 26th. The All Star weekend continues on hte 27th with the Skills competition; and the All Star game concludes the festivities on Monday January 28th.
