Knee Jerk Reactions: Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres

After a Thursday night offensive blowout, The Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes played a defensive battle.

It was a safe bet for the Carolina Hurricanes to play their back up goaltender – with the Buffalo Sabrse offense only clicking on one cylinder – the Buffalo Sabres needed to focus on shutting down the offense threats of Carolina.

Ryan Miller played lights out for most of the night, and stood out when the Hurricanes had themselves a 3-0 – and kept himself composed to make two saves.

The Sabres were able to keep themselves in tonights game because they made better decisions – passes were crisper.

The offensive line of Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, and Cody Hodgson clicked once again, and had the Buffalo Sabres up – with Carolina able to answer.

It was fatigue that beat the Buffalo Sabres – as Carolina kept the Tyler Ennis were kept on the ice for almost a double shift with icings – and they were able to get one in off a faceoff.  The games are still sloppy – more fluid plays are starting to be seen, but there is a lot of lockout season struggles.

A lazy play by Thomas Vanek erased the fact that he scored the teams only goal – and the ‘Canes scored their second empty net goal in as many games to seal the Buffalo Sabres fate.  Tyler Myers was outplayed by Jeff Skinner – further sealing the fact that he needs to spend a night in the press box (or maybe an afternoon in Washington).  It’s time to give Mike Weber or T.J. Brennan the chance to show their fair market value.

Its a good thing that my ‘Canes loving friend didn’t want to bet this year – scared off by Caniac Nation telling her she was bad luck.

The Buffalo Sabres started the season with a 2-0 record, but a disappointing 0-2 run against the Carolina Hurricanes has the Buffalo Sabres stuck at .500.
