Rochester Americans PreGame Skate: Toronto Marlies

If last night’s Buffalo Sabres win has you supercharged and you can’t wait until Saturday afternoon for the Montreal Canadiens, then tonight is your night.

The Rochester Americans try to get their first win against the Toronto Marlies in the sixth meeting of the QEW rivals.  This will be the first matchup between the two American Hockey League clubs since the National Hockey League resumed play and took the top players from each lineup.

The Amerks are playing better hockey, and hope to surge up the standings to claim one of the top eight spots – in this the second half of the AHL season.  Last year the Rochester Americans made it into the playoffs, but lost in a first round battle to the same Toronto Marlies who swept the Amerks.

You would have to look back March 4th, 2012 to find their last win against the Marlies.  The Rochester Americans are skating on an 10 game winless streak (including playoffs), after beating the Toronto Marlies in both games of a home and home series in March of 2012.

It is a hockey filled weekend in homes of Western New Yorkers, with last night Boston Bruins game being a huge uplift for Hockey Heaven and its Rochester campus, tonight the Rochester Americans will try to keep the motivation high, as homes around WNY will be able to tune in on the Time Warner Sports channel.  Tonight’s game then bridges the gap to the weekend, where the Buffalo Sabres have two matinees this weekend, one against the Montreal Canadiens and the other against the Florida Panthers, which happens just prior to the Super Bowl.

Rochester plays again on Saturday night, that game also being televised.
