As reported by John Vogl of the Buffalo News, Jhonas Enroth will get the start tonight as the Buffalo Sabres take on the New Jersey Devils. Ryan Miller had played 15 straight games heading into tonight and was beginning to look tired, especially late in games, but with all the rubber he’s faced who can blame him?
Enroth will get his first start since Feb. 5th when the Sabres lost 4-3 at the hands of the Ottawa Senators. Don’t let the score fool you, this was a very winnable game for the Sabres but Enroth looked like swiss cheese out there especially on the 3rd and 4th goals. Since that game, then head coach Lindy Ruff had lost all confidence in the backup and Miller was given the chance to keep playing. But Ron Rolston has decided Ryan Miller needs a break and with a night off tonight will have had 4 days rest before taking on the Flyers on Sunday night.
Enroth who is 0-2 on the season and has not looked good will get a chance to hop back into the saddle against the struggling New Jersey Devils who are
Jhonas Enroth has not won an NHL game since Nov. 26, 2011 but has a chance to make sure the Devils lose their 7th straight for the first time in 27 years. Hopefully Enroth will step up to the plate and make the most of a rare start in the shortened season but if he doesn’t I suspect we wont be seeing much more of Enroth in blue and gold. With the future of Ryan Miller up in the air, the Sabres will need to bring in a trusted, solid backup who can fill in, if and when Miller leaves.
In addition to Enroth getting the start tonight Jochen Hecht will also be a healthy scratch with Adam Pardy. Tonight is the first time that Hecht will be a healthy scratch with the Buffalo Sabres. John Scott will fill in for Hecht on a line with Mikhail Grigorenko and Drew Stafford.
A early goal against a struggling Hedberg would go a long way in getting Enroth some much needed confidence, hopefully Thomas Vanek and his line can make something happen early on help the Sabres get off to a fast start.
