After struggling to get into the win column after the promotion of Ron Rolston to the Buffalo Sabres as interim head coach – and going on a 0-4 streak, the Amerks have put back to back wins together to start the month of March – both wins coming on the road.
The Rochester Americans return home tonight to face off against divisional foe – in the hopes of continuing to streak up the standings.
Because of their recent losing streak, Rochester finds themselves in ninth place, just one point behind the Abbotsford Heat for the final spot. In Rochester favor as well, is only the Chicago Wolves have played fewer games than the Amerks. Rochester has 1-5 games in hand on all the teams in front of them. They have five games in hand on the Heat.
Despite losing many players to the Buffalo Sabres as interim head coach Ron Rolston tries to juggle injuries and players not filling the right roles, the Amerks do have some level of consistency. That comes in the defensive pairing of Brayden McNabb and Mark Pysyk. The term “shutdown pair” is being used to describe the young prospects. Lacking that at the NHL level – the Buffalo Sabres have to be hoping that these two can remain in the organization and translate that success into the National Hockey League blue line.
Game time tonight is 7:05.
