Rochester is looking for its third win in a row, and extending a March point streak that has reached six games. Through that stretch the Americans have gained 11 of a possible 12 points in the Western Conference standings.
These two teams have not met since November 23, when rookie Brian Flynn and T.J. Brennan lit the lamp a combined 5 times, a hat trick for Flynn and two short handed tallies for Brennan. ALbany could only counter twice in the loss. Since rejoining the league as the Albany Devils, Rochester holds a lead in the I-90 series, winning all games in Rochester, but dropping a 2-4 record in the state capital.
Starting the month of March on a 5-0-1 tear, the Rochester Americans have closed in on the division lead and have the best record in the AHL for March. Albany comes in facing off against the hottest team in the league – one they don’ t play well against on the road, going on a tear. While Albany has to be careful they don’t get run over, the Rochester Americans can’t put the blinders on and think that teams are going to roll for them.
Albany is coming into tonights game starting a lengthy road trip winners of their last two, and four of their last five. The Albany Devils sit in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, just one point behind the 7th and 8th place teams. While the Rochester Americans are looking for first place, Albany is trying to get into the final 16 for a chance at dancing for the Calder.
Mark Mancari has taken over point leadership of the team in the absence of all the callups to the Buffalo Sabres. The Rochester Americans forward has points in his last seven games (3+7) giving him the longest active streak in the American Hockey League. His stats are enough to lead the Americans in all offensive categories, and he is near the top of the league in most categories.
