Maxime Legault scored a short handed goal for the Rochester Americans, that was however, the only highlight of the night for the Amerks as the Toronto Marlies lit the lamp six times this evening to skate to a 6-1 win.
The win now puts the Toronto Marlies four points ahead of the Rochester Americans in the North Division, with a game in hand.
David Leggio was peppered for 32 shots in the game, and could only come up with six saves. Marlies Ryan Hamilton netted a hat trick, and Brad Ross scored the game winning goal in the first period.
It wasn’t like the Rochester Americans were severely out shot in the contest, on the contrary, they had 31 shots themselves, but could not beat Toronto goalie Drew Macintyre. Maybe it was a little bit of retribution, Macintyre spent last season with the Rochester Americans – and even appeared in two games for the Buffalo Sabres. The journeymen goalie was more than what the Rochester based hockey club could handle.
With Legault’s short handed goal coming unassisted, Mark Mancari‘s eight game point streak comes to a close, and Rochester loses in regulation and fails to pick up a point for the first time in the month of March.
Hopefully this does not set the tone for the Rochester Americans as tonight’s contest starts a season high long road trip away from home. Rochester is next in action on Tuesday night as they face the Oklahoma City Barons – game time is set for 8PM.
The Rochester Americans only have three more television appearances this season, the next one coming on March 25th.
