The trade deadline is not going to be easy this year for the Buffalo Sabres. Do we buy, do we sell? Darcy Regier has already said that the team will be looking at trades for the future of the team, and not the right now.
Drew Stafford has come out publicly at least through his agent that he would welcome a trade out of Buffalo – if it ment a change in scenery. Both the Buffalo Sabres and Drew Stafford would benefit from such a move.
Tonight will mark the second game in a row that Drew Stafford, while wearing an A as a leader on this team, will sit down and watch the team compete for two points in the standings.
Have we seen the last of Drew Stafford in a blue and gold sweater? Stafford took his first benching on the chin, realizing that the team was doing what was best for the win, and that even though disappointed, he knew he wasn’t playing as well as he could. A second game in the press box has to be sitting even harder with the veteran winger.
If Stafford doesn’t make it into the lineup against the Florida Panthers – does he walk into Darcy’s office and tell him that he no longer welcomes a change in scenery but actually wants out of Buffalo?
For all we know, Stafford could have already made that comment to his coach and general manager – and it hasn’t hit the media yet.
If there is an elephant in the room for the Buffalo Sabres to trade, it would be the 4 million dollar man who isn’t producing enough to warrant the league minimum.
Through 31 games this season, Stafford has helped on 7 goals, and scored himself only four times. He is a team worst -12, in fact he is the only player left seeing the double digit column when it comes to plus/minus.
A google search on Drew Stafford brings up rumor mongering to include the Detroit Red Wings. For giggles after googling, I asked a friend of mine what she would think of the Red Wings adding Drew Stafford. Her response? WHO?
