Earlier today, Buffalo Sabres’ captain Jason Pominville, was asked to submit a list of eight teams that he would not like to be traded to, according to Patrick Caisse of TVA Sports.

Now, I’ve been sitting on this nugget for a little bit, waiting to see if this led to a major development, but right now Sabres’ GM Darcy Regier seems to be playing it off as simply being prepared for every possible scenario. We’ve caught wind of Ryan Miller having been asked to submit a similar list, and Regier was all over the news Saturday after Jordan Leopold was traded to St. Louis, saying he would listen to offers about “anything and everything.” Having Pominville submit a list could simply be one of the necessary precautions that the club goes through, just in case the situation ever arises.
Still, this is not the first time we have heard Pominville mentioned in a trade rumor, and as long as I have been following sports I have learned that players’ names get mentioned in trade rumors for a reason, and that reason is, they are being shopped for a possible trade. Sounds pretty logical, I know! If Pominville and Miller are in the news, they are being shopped. The question now is, what does the organization hope to get in return for these players, and who (if anyone) will pick them up?
That’s a tough question when it comes to Pominville; which potential playoff teams could not benefit from having another secondary scorer on their roster? There’s about sixteen teams out west who would love to acquire a guy who can give you 50+ points in a regular season, so trying to guess where he could wind up requires a crystal ball. At least when you discuss Miller you are looking at teams who have shaky goaltending, which narrows your focus a bit. I would think teams like San Jose, St. Louis, and even Columbus could be interested in Pominville, but at this point I would not be surprised to hear that anyone out west came knocking on the Sabres’ door in search of their captain.
Yet another trade rumor we’ll be keeping track of here at Sabre Noise!
