Rochester Americans Four Points This Weekend - Five Days Off Now

With wins against the Albany Devils and Adirondack Phantoms – the Rochester Americans picked up four points this weekend, and increased their position in the American Hockey League playoff picture.

Newest Buffalo Sabres prospect Matt Hackett got the start last night against the Albany Devils, and although he needed the shootout, gave the Amerks the win.

While four of the eight playoff spots in the Eastern conference have already been spoken for, the Rochester Americans are mired in a nasty playoff hunt in the Western Conference, where only the Texas Stars have clinched a spot.  Their four point weekend has them listed in sixth place, tied with the Houston Aeros.  They are just seven points behind the Toronto Marlies for first in the division.

The Rochester Americans are only three points better than the first non playoff team, but on the same token, are in position to jump as high as fourth with just two wins.  Seven of the eight playoff bound teams in the Western Conference have played 70 games, only the Oklahoma City Barons have played less, coming into today with a mere 69 games played.  They only trail the Amerks by 2 points.

The Barons are the next opponent for the Rochester Americans, who sit idle all week, until they play the Barons Friday night.  The game will be televised by the Time Warner Sports Channel.
