Oklahoma bookending goals in the first and third period – with the Rochester Americans scoring two goals in the second, but David Leggio proved to be too much for the Barons to handle, as the Amerks skated to a 3-2 shooutout victory.
The win gives the Rochester Americans two points in the standings, but keeps things real interesting by allowing the Barons to remain within one point of the Amerks.
The Barons gave it the old college try as well, peppering Leggio for 42 shots in the three period plus overtime – but Leggio was up to the task, keeping his team in the game and stop all of four of the Baron’s shootout attempts.
Johan Larsson scored in the shootout, putting OKC down on his first trip in the AHL skill competition, and Colin Jacobs scored the shootout goal that sealed the fate of the Barons.
The victory vaults the Rochester Americans into fifth place, now just three points back of the 4th place Charlotte Checkers and five points back on the division leading Toronto Marlies. Rochester has a game in hand on the Checkers, but Toronto holds the advantage with one few games played.
Up next for the Rochester Americans is a trip to Eastern New York, with away contests against the Albany Devils and Syracuse Crunch. Rochester will then return home to face the Marlies, before ending the season with a home and home with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
