Despite a rough weekend that saw the Rochester Americans drop a 5-1 decision to the Syracuse Crunch, and the need for extra time to dispatch with the Albany Devils, the Rochester Americans are now just one win away from clinching a playoff spot that will set them on course for the Calder Cup Playoffs.
The Rochester Americans have three games left to grab just two points. They have a home game against the division leading Toronto Marlies, and close the season with a home and home series against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
While a playoff spot would be nice, Rochester has to be eying the top spot in the division, which Toronto holds just a three point lead on. The down side for Rochester there is Toronto has a game in hand on the Amerks, and Rochester has had little success in beating the Toronto Maple Leafs American Hockey League affiliate.
The odds are very good for the Rochester Americans on getting into the playoffs, it is the seeding which could come down to the final day of the 2012-2013 AHL regular season. The Rochester Americans are currently tied in points with the fifth place Houston Aeros, and are only two points behind the Charlotte Checkers.
Rochester can remain in the playoff hunt if they go winless in their last three games, if the Chicago Wolves and/or Milwaukee Admirals only get four points in their remaining four games. The last time the Amerks lost three in a row was this past February, when they lost the last four games of the month.
Looking in their rearview mirror, the seventh and eight place teams are close enough, that the Amerks could lose their footing and fall lower in the playoffs.
