It is not a National Hockey League bench, but Lindy Ruff will be back at the helm of a hockey team next month. Lindy Ruff has been selected by Hockey Canada to lead their country in the World Championship next month at the games in Stockholm and Helskinki.
Team Canada has to be hoping that Lindy Ruff will bring Team Canada back into medal contention. In last year’s World Championship – Canada ended up fifth in the tournament. Ruff coached this team to a 2009 silver medal, and was an associate coach for the gold medal Olympic team in 2010.
If the NHL returns to Sochi in 2014 – expect Lindy Ruff to be behind the bench as well. “I said I want to coach,” Ruff said Wednesday. ”You’re out of it a short period of time and you miss it. Im excited to get back to it.”
Lindy Ruff hasn’t been behind an NHL bench since being let go by the Buffalo Sabres on February 20th, after leading the team to a horrible 6-10-1 start. Under interim head coach Ron Rolston – the Buffalo Sabres are now just two points out of the playoffs, and have reached .500 for the first time since the early part of the season. Ruff will be back behind the bench for a National Hockey League team before you know it.
A front runner for the job in Tampa which fell out because of the urgency of the team and Ruff’s Easter vacation.
I would look to see Ruff back with the Florida Panthers – the team he was prior to joining the Sabres. He was an assistant coach on the Panthers team that made it so close to the Stanley Cup.
