Rochester Americans Lose To Toronto Marlies, Drop to Seventh

The Rochester Americans dropped a 4-1 decision to the Toronto Marlies tonight, and lost a place in the standings.  Rochester now looks up at six teams ahead of them in the standings, and still has yet to clinch a playoff spot.

Rochester completes the season with a home and home series with the Hamilton Bulldogs.  With tonights victory, the Marlies clinch the division.  With a total of four points on the board – Rochester has to hope the Charlotte Checkers lose out their remaining two games.  One win by the Checkers seals the fourth place position for the American Hockey League team of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Cody McCormick was the only Amerk to get on the board tonight, and Mike Zigomanis had a two point night with a goal and an assist for the Marlies.  McCormick’s goal was nothing more than a stop gap as Toronto jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the third period, but scored two more after Cody’s goal.

David Leggio played well, stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced.  Toronto was able to get two empty net goals as they tried to clinch the playoff spot tonight.  The Rochester Americans were only able to muster 18 shots against Toronto netminder and former Rochester American Drew Macintyre.
