Final Day Of Regular Season Has Playoff Implications

For the Eastern Conference, it all comes down to the final game of the season – in a rescheduled game between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators.

In what should be a spirited contest – both teams are fighting for something in the waning moments of the regular season.

For the Boston Bruins – they now trail the Montreal Canadiens for the top spot in the Northeast Division.  Two points can clinch the division for the Bruins.  Two points for the Bruins is the difference between the second place seed, and the fourth place seed.  Boston can notch the second place spot if they win in regulation or a shootout.  They need both points because the loser point will only tie them with Montreal thus keeping the Bruins in the fourth spot.

Ottawa needs a victory to leap frog over the New York Islanders.  While it might be semantics that Ottawa end up either eighth or seventh place – it means the difference between facing the Pittsburgh Penguins or Boston / Montreal in the first round.

Starting Monday – we will have round table reactions to the four series in both the Eastern and Western Conference, as the race to the Stanley Cup finals begins.

Once the playoffs get underway, keep it tuned in here for up to date action on the playoffs around the league – and track which writer for the Sabre Noise staff has the best luck at selecting the winner of this years Stanley Cup.
