After almost missing the post season for the first time in 22 years, the Detroit Red Wings are safely in the area where they are most dangerous, in the hunt for the Stanley Cup. Their first target, the Anaheim Ducks. The Detroit Red Wings owned the season series, 2-0-1 over the Ducks.
What can the Ducks do to ensure success in this series? They will have an easy time with the Detroit Defense, as the consensus among the staff here at Sabrenoise.com – the one thing that has been lacking has been the presence of Lindstrom on the Red Wings blue line.
It is an even split on the staff, with Caitlin and Rich both picking the Anaheim Ducks to win the series in six games. I tend to agree with AJ – the Red Wings are going to prevail in this series. AJ says six, but I think the Ducks will be a tough enough opponent and this series will go the distance – with the Red Wings winning it in seven.
How will the Red Wings do it – two words, Jimmy Howard. Rich is always the first to throw out analytics – and the first stat he brought to the table, the fact that there were 48 games in a condensed schedule, and Howard played all but six of them. That could be there downfall though – if Howard is too tired to focus on the offensive threats that Anaheim has to throw at the red and white. Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Bobby Ryan scored a combined 115 points this year. The Ducks seem to be the prototypical team destined to win, with the top scoring line, to the aged experience, everyone on the team plays a role – and according to CC – that is the key point that is going to help Anaheim overcome in this series.

Turnovers could be the downfall of the Detroit Red Wings who overplayed their starting goaltender – but only if the Anaheim Ducks can keep their older legs moving.
